Day 50 April 22 – Bear’s Den Hostel – 39.11098, – 77.85414 –

24 miles today. Today was a good day. I got up and moving by 7:30. The Goodfellows were at the shelter so I will see them again tonight maybe. I made good time, but kept it somewhat slow. The day was HOT and, to me, VERY humid. I got to the beginning of the Devil’s Roller Coaster, a series of 10 steep 750 foot PUDs in a row over 13 miles, at about 12:30. It took me until almost 7 to get through that 13 miles, darn it. At least the Bear’s Den is right here at the end.
The Bear’s Den is an amazing hostel owned by the ATC and run by the PATC. They have this $25 deal I chose where you get the regular bunk, shower, internet etc, but you also get a frozen pizza, a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, soda, and a load of laundry. Not to mention a group who’d rented out the rest of the place for the weekend donated some sloppy joes, fresh fruit, and brownies to my feast. I LOVE it here. I’m headed into Harpers Ferry tomorrow where Woodstock is going to wait for me. I’m really looking forward to it. The Goodfellows went into Baltimore with a friend, so I’m the lone thru-hiker here tonight.
Ah well.

toodles,

Seth “Osprey” Schumacher
