11.3 miles today. I landed in Atlanta at 11:45pm last night and Sly picked me up outside. We stayed at his sister’s place and left at about 8:30am. We made it to Amicalola State Park at about 11:00am and I was on the trail by 11:30.
They weather wasn’t the best ever. There was a constant drizzle and the temperature hovered in the low 50s with a mist lowering visability to about 25 feet. The trail wasn’t too strenuous, but it was enough to make my muscles burn. All the ups and downs are definately get to me, not to mention the mud, but ah well.
I passed 6 other thru-hikers starting today, all male, and none of them with trail names yet. I got my picture taken on Mt. Springer in front of the plaques. It’s so nice to actually be standing in front of my first white blaze.
I was hoping to make it to the Hawk Mountain shelter, but I started too late for that. I hope to make it to Neel’s Gap tommorow and catch up with Alicat and Juniper. It’s a 28 mile slog, but the weather is supposed to clear up and get into the 60s with sunny skies for a few day, so that should help. We’ll see what happens.
